AMHERST, Massachusetts – It was an electrifying 19-0 run in the third quarter that catapulted the Red Foxes to an 88-60 win over UMass Thursday afternoon at the Mullins Center. With the win, the Marist close out it’s non-conference action at 4-8 overall while UMass moves to 8-5 on the season.
After a rocky start to the game that saw six Marist turnovers and a trailing 19-14 in the first quarter, the Red Foxes turned it all around and battled back to take a three point lead into the halftime locker room.
Coming out of the locker room for the second half, the Red Foxes were on fire. It was the turning point of the game as Marist went on that 19-0 run and finished the third quarter with a record setting 37 points, the most Marist has ever scored in a single quarter. The Red Foxes outscored UMass 37 -9 in the third.
Overall, Marist amassed a 26-0 run that started with 3:17 left in the first half and spanned to 4:15 to go in the third quarter. UMass would outscore the Red Foxes 22-19 in the fourth but the damage was already done.
Alana Gilmer put up 20 points and also had three blocks and two steals.
Rebekah Hand was right behind Gilmer with 19 points and a team high eight rebounds.
Gabi Redden came off the bench to score a season high nine points in nine minutes of action.
The Red Foxes kick off Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Thursday, December 28th at Rider. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
