POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Poughkeepsie Pioneers needed a very strong fourth quarter to put away a very competitive Millbrook Blazers boys basketball team in Friday night’s Semi Final round of the Duane Davis memorial Holiday Tournament at Lourdes High School. Thanks to a 27-16 fourth quarter, the Pioneers beat Millbrook 68-55 to advance to Saturday night’s 6 p.m. final showdown with Spackenkill at Ketcham high school.
Poughkeepsie was led by junior guard Tremell Reaves’ brilliant second half performance. Reaves had just two points in the entire first half, but exploded for 17 points in the 4th quarter for a team high 23 points.
Millbrook was led by sophomore guard Jake Daly’s 25 points. The Blazers started out with 18 points in the first quarter and trailed Poughkeepsie by 2, 20-18. Poughkeepsie led 32-26 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Millbrook held the Pioneers to just 9 points while scoring 14 to make it a 41-40 game after three quarters. But the Pioneers pulled away when Reaves caught fire in the fourth, with the help of back to back three pointers by Davontrey Thomas.
Senior guard Humberto Cabrera, scored the 1000th point of his high school career at Millbrook.
