Four quick goals by Rondout sets the tone for a nail biter.

HIGHLAND –  The two time defending Sectional champs, Highland, might have been looking a little bit past this one.  It was the Section 9 semi final game between Highland and Rondout and Rondout was coming in with an 8-8 record while Highland was 11-4.

But the awakening came quick as Rondout left the first quarter scoring four goals and leading 4-3.

The Huskies were able to even it up with a single goal in the second quarter, making it an even 4-4 at halftime.

Both teams relied on defense in the third quarter that rendered each scoreless, taking the tied game into the final quarter where Highland scored two goals to Rondout’s one and a 6-5 win to give Highland an opportunity to defend its title against Red Hook Thursday night at 7 pm at Marlboro high school.

Christian Canino came up clutch for the Huskies with three goals.  Jack Young, Danny Rusk, and Roger Hegeman scored the other three.

Jason Perez and Tomas Ludwig each scored twice for Rondout.  Kyle Meoli also scored.

The battle in goal was just as even as the score as Highland’s goalie, Giorgio D’Angelo had 8 saves, and Rondout’s Ian Houck had 9.
