WICCOPEE, NY – Ketcham and John Jay girls basketball teams have had two exciting games this season; the first was an overtime thriller won by Ketcham and the second was another thriller in regulation. In the second meeting at John Jay high school on Thursday, the Ketcham Indians came from behind in the final three minutes to beat Jay 44-41.
The Indians led in the first half 9-8, but fell behind by halftime as Jay was able to contain Ketcham’s leading scorer, Katie Wall to just one field goal in the entire first half. Wall had scored 36 points in the previous meeting between the two teams.
Meanwhile the Patriots led 19-16 at halftime and increased their lead behind three point accuracy of Alyssa Caswell and Nicole Musacchio. But a perfect storm hit Jay in the fourth quarter. First, the Ketcham defense kicked it into high gear and denied the Patriots from scoring a single basket from the field in the final ten minutes and fifteen seconds of the game, and second, Katie Wall scored 11 of her 16 points in the final quarter. Meg Nardelli hit a big three pointer with just under three minutes remaining to make it 34-33 Jay, but Wall was scoring three pointers and layups, while dishing out a few assists as well to lead the Indians to victory.
Ketcham outscored Jay 18-8 in the final quarter. Jay’s eight points came solely from the free throw line where Jay was 8-12 in the 4th quarter.
