NEW PALTZ, NY – The highly anticipated match up of the Officials vs Cancer tournament’s four game slate on Saturday at SUNY New Paltz was the battle of the cities, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie.
Always a thrilling match up and early on this one lived up to the history between these two school basketball programs. Newburgh held a slight lead after the first quarter, 20-18. By halftime, the Goldbacks increased their two point lead to a seven point lead, 42-35. Zach Barnes and Percy Smith led the way. Poughkeepsie’s Davontrey Thomas was trying to keep his team in the hunt; he finished with 19 points, but Newburgh had a 62-53 lead after three quarters and went on to win it 76-67.
