Boys of Summer Return: HV Renegades

New crop of Hudson Valley Renegades come to Dutchess Stadium in time for season opener this Friday night.

FISHKILL –  27 hopefuls arrived at Dutchess Stadium for the start of this season’s New York -Penn league minor league baseball season.  The Renegades, a minor league Class A short season farm team for the Tampa Bay Rays, will kick off the season Friday June 17th.

Wednesday was Media Day, where players and members of the media get an opportunity to meet and talk about the up-coming season, and a new way of life for many of the younger players who are entering professional baseball for the first time.

Players come from all over the world including the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Hawaii, and other distant parts of the U.S.   Tampa Bay’s number one draft pick in last year’s amateur draft, Garrett Whitney of nearby Niskayuna, is back again this season.

Team Manager Tim Parenton is back for a third  season.

Summer intern, Greg Allen, got “called up” to file this report.
