ONTEORA -It was a happy bus ride home for the Spackenkill Spartans baseball team as timely hitting and the combined pitching efforts of Josh Koller and Connor Lee helped the Spartans pick up their first win of the season in a league contest against Onteora Monday afternoon.
The home team started the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but Spackenkill responded with three runs in the fifth and another four in the top of the 6th.
Zach Cioffi went 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Robert LeRoy had two hits in three at bats, and Josh Koller also had 2 hits and an RBI. Koller started the game and pitched the first four innings. He allowed two hits while striking out six. The two runs that Onteora scored in the second inning were both unearned.
Connor Lee came on in relief and pitched three shutout innings including 6 strikeouts. Lee got the win.
Spackenkill is now 1-0 in league play and 1-2 overall. It was Onteora’s first game of the season.
