POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – It was a career night for West Point junior Jordan Fox as the Black Knights picked up a road win over Marist, 94-73 Saturday night.
The first half of the Army vs Marist men’s basketball meet up was pretty entertaining and evenly balanced. The Red Foxes were excelling at home with a 10 point lead at one point, but the Black Knights stayed the course and behind Jordan Fox’s hot hand and 20 first half points, whittled the lead down and then surged ahead as the first half ended. Army led 41-35 as both teams headed to the locker room.
In the second half the game stayed close and was back to a four point ballgame at 66-62 with a little under 10 minutes to play when Marist’s Isaiah Lamb converted on a three-point play after being fouled. But then Army unleashed seven minutes of fire power that led to a 28-6 run and pretty much put the game out of reach for the Red Foxes.
The Black Knights finished the Red Foxes off with a 94-73 victory, shooting 61% from 3-point range compared to just 27% by Marist
Jordan Fox finished the game as high scorer with 33 points. He hit 9 of 11 three point attempts. David Knudsen led the Red Foxes with 16 points. It was the first time a Black Knight hit that many 3-pointers in a game since Jarell Brown did it on Jan 2, 2008 in a game against Brown.
Cadets Tommy Funk, Luke Morrison, and Matt Wilson also had double digit scoring. Funk matched his career high with 16 points, Morrison had 14 and Wilson added 12.
Marist also had four players in double digits with Knudsen leading the way with 16 points, Kevin Parker finished with 15, Isaiah Lamb had 14, and Ryan Funk chipped in with 11.
Army is now 2-1 on the season, Marist is 0-3
This was only the second win for Army on the Marist floor since the inception of the Hudson Valley series. The Red Foxes still hold a 10-7 all time lead.
Army hosts Columbia at the Christl Arena on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while Marist heads to Orlando, Florida for the Advocare Invitational. The Red Foxes will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
