HIGHLAND, NY – Throughout the years of Highland girls basketball there has always been a constant, the name Rozzi. Five girls from the Rozzi family all wore the Highland Huskies jersey and four of the five have been 1000 point scorers; junior guard Brianna Rozzi is the latest to carry the legacy.
“Brianna’s got the whole package,” said father and Highland Assistant coach, Tom Rozzi. “She plays a little defense and sees the court well and she’s a great team player”.
Rozzi scored her 1000th point against Middletown on January 3rd of this year. She’s been on the varsity since she was in 7th grade and got her first varsity start in the New York State regional semi final game where she scored 17 points.
Brianna is the youngest of the five sisters who have all played Highland basketball over the past three decades. Erica, Renee, Christy, Ali, all played before Brianna and she learned from each of them.
“I was at their games since I was born”, recalls Rozzi. “I took a little bit from each sister”.
When Brianna is not playing with the Highland Huskies, she’s part of travel team, The New York Havoc out of Albany.
Now that Brianna has broken the 1000 point barrier in her junior year, her new goal, and the team’s goal, is to win a New York State playoff game.
