VIDEO: John Jay “Bookend’s” Red Hook for First Season Win

RED HOOK , NY –   They say, “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish”, but in Wednesday night’s non-league game between Red Hook and John Jay it was how the Patriots started AND finished. Jay edged out Red Hook thanks to a strong first quarter and a strong finish in the fourth quarter to led the Patriots to a 67-58 win.

“The game was much closer than the final score might indicate”, reflected John Jay head coach Terry Feeley.  “It was a very competitive game with both teams playing hard throughout”.

The first quarter belongs to John Jay’s Isaiah Tullo who scored 10 of his 17 points in the first quarter helping the Patriots jump out to an 18-10 lead.  Tullo also had eight rebounds.

The Red Raiders were led by Jason Davis’ 21 points. Chris Yearwood had 14 points and Hunter Cole chipped in with 12.

Red Hook outscored the Patriots 31-25 in the middle quarters, aided by a zone defense that John Jay had some trouble with.

The fourth quarter is where the Patriots came back to life, scoring 24 points behind Brady Hilderbrand’s court leadership and nine of his 13 points in the game.  Hilderbrand was 9-11 from the foul line.  In fact, John Jay was 19 for 23 from the charity stripe.  Brady’s younger brother Aiden scored 16 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.
