NEWBURGH, NY – The Marlboro Iron Dukes were up against hieght and accuracy when they faced the Briarcliff Bears in the Class B Regional Semifinals of the New York State Tournament. Briarcliff held off a late Marlboro surge and went on to win 57-71, Tuesday night at Mt. St. Mary College.
The Bears jumped out to a 34-24 lead at halftime and led by as many as seven points in the third quarter behind Miles Jones’ 18 points and Jackson Gonseth’s 13 points and control of the boards, but Marlboro chipped away behind some timely shooting by John Perrigino and Jaiden Allen.
Allen led Marlboro with 18 points, Perrigino had 10.
The Iron Dukes made it a one point game with 3:30 left to play in the 4th quarter, but Briarcliff went on an 8-2 run to close it out and move on in the State tournament.
